Shop Scottish Design
The good guys at Analogue Social and Glasgow Life are up to some mighty fine work in celebration of Scottish design. The spanking new Analogue Shop, will "showcase outstanding Scottish design throughout the year". The shop opens this Friday 4th December at 6pm at The Lighthouse, Scotland's centre of architecture and design. All the deets are here.
I am rather proud to say, one of my framed textile pieces has been selected for the shop. It feels like a pretty sound recognition of the work I've developed using recycled materials this past year.
The piece is 'Linear Dynamics In Green' (close up below). I made this in summer 2015 using my hand operated Harris Table Loom. The materials used are bamboo, cotton, alpaca wool and telecom cables. The rarity of the materials and skill in the craft achieve two things; empowering a space aesthetically, and telling a story about sustainable design. Like in all my work I've used sustainable and recycled materials with the aim of inspiring answers to our environmental crisis.
I'm so chuffed my work will have a place in such an important space in Glasgow, alongside so many other talented Scottish designers.
So to recap. The opening night kicks off at 6pm on Friday 4th December. More details here. Please come along and celebrate this exciting new shop for Scottish design. I've heard that Williams Bros are invovled too ;). Good people, good beer and you can get some Chrimbo shopping done too.
I hope to see you there!
